The Ashburn Ruritan Club, a local service organization, honored student citizens for outstanding service to their school and community on Tuesday night at Broad Run High School. Each student's teacher presented the award along with the highlights of the student's academic, service, and extra-curricular accomplishments throughout the past year. Also honored were student members of the Ruritan Club for their ongoing accomplishments in reaching out to people locally and across the nation. The ceremony was followed by a reception and photos.

School zoning changes occur each year in Loudoun County because of the high growth rate of our communities. Before buying a home in a particular neighborhood, it is a good idea for the prospective homeowner to check with the local school board to find out which school your children will be attending. Never assume that it is the school closest to your home or the same one as last year. Although it is unfortunate that many children will have to change schools once or twice, it is necessary to avoid overcrowding as new neighborhoods and new schools are built.

"For the second year in a row, the selective Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology ...has been named the country's top public high school in a ranking by U.S. News & World Report.
"The magazine's "gold Medal list," published online this week, was developed though a formula using such variables as state test scores, student demographics and performance in college-level courses."
It included several other schools from the Washinton area in the top 100: McLean High (No. 55), Winston Churchill High in Potomac (No. 57), Langley High in McLean (No. 76) and W.T. Woodson High in Fairfax (No. 90).
Suzanne Reed, a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, will receive her Bachelor's degree in Economics and Russian Studies from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, one of our country's oldest public universities (Thomas Jefferson went there!) . Suzanne will be continuing her studies in St. Pertersburg, Russia in 2011-12.

The historic Wren Building beckons students and visitors alike to stroll the streets of Colonial Williamsburg, stepping back for a moment into our nation's history.

College of William & Mary alumni attend a football game during homecoming weekend. (You're never too old for a fieldtrip!)
The University of Mary Washington at historic Fredericksburg offers all the advantages of a prestigious private college -- with all the value of in-state tuition for Virginia residents!
